Aunty Math
gives kids in K-5 a different math challenge each week, with three levels (regular, ‘a wee bit harder,’ and ‘a wee bit easier’). Kids can try the challenge and submit their answers. Teachers and parents can view tips on how to use the challenges with kids, what math is involved and how to modify or extend the challenges for different learners.

In 2006, I created an after school multimedia publishing program to fend off my
growing sense that schools have become overly and obsessively focused
on standards - getting all the kids to do the same things in the same
ways at the same rate. Ugh! In my program, kids learn to take
responsibility for their talents and strengths by exploring, stretching
and sharing what they’re passionate about or what comes easily. They
also learn to take responsibility for things they struggle with, by
pushing their limits, learning alternative strategies, and seeking out
expert helpers among their peers. In this way, in the words of Ross
Greene, ‘everyone does their best and everyone gets what they need,’
AND our school community gets a wonderfully creative and exuberant
publication every eight weeks or so!
